Tannery of the Year 2009
For the first time, the leading leather magazine “World Leather” is awarding the “Tannery of the year” award 2009. In each of the six regions of the world (Europe, South America, Central and North America, China, rest of Asia, Africa) 10 tanneries are nominated. Two finalists from each region will enter the final stage of the competition.
The criteria for the award are all aspects of corporate social responsibility, environmental concerns, good relationships with employees, partners, suppliers and the local community, commitment to innovation and financial probity.
Beginning of March Heinen tannery was nominated to be among the top 10 tanneries in Europe. In April, 8 tanneries have been eliminated and Heinen was shortlisted to be among the top 2 tanneries of Europe and with that among the top 12 tanneries in the world. We are happy that industry specialist have nominated us to represent Europe at the final ceremony to be held in Hong Kong in spring 2010. We are thankful that our environmental and social responsibility efforts covered under terracare (www.terracare.de) are in focus with the “Tannery of the year” award.
